Open to AI product manager roles
Hi, I’m Joe,Senior Product Designer, moving into AI PM.
I turn AI into products, and bring it into teams.
13 years in product design at D-Link. I pushed AI tools on my design team twice and learned what it takes for people to actually use them. Lately I’ve built a voice AI app and a few AI workflow tools.
How I judge an AI feature
Four questions
Before building anything with AI, I ask these four. Each comes with something I actually did, and where to read about it.
- 01
Who is it for, and what does it fix?
Only worth AI if it hurts and happens often. Pick the people and the problem before the tool.
What I didTwo failed rollouts →I pushed AI tools on my design team twice and nobody changed how they worked. I'd skipped all three: no person, no problem, no number.
- 02
What happens when the AI gets it wrong?
Decide up front where a mistake gets caught, and put a person at that checkpoint.
What I didRésumé workflow →My résumé workflow: the AI lists its edits and stops until I approve. Testing a free model, it invented experience I don't have. That checkpoint caught it.
- 03
Quality, speed or cost: which comes first?
The use case decides, not the leaderboard. Then write down what “good” means so it can be tested.
What I didPace tone spec →Pace, a voice app: I picked a small open model that replies in 1.3s over a larger one that wrote better but took 12.8s, and wrote the tone as a spec checked by 32 test cases.
- 04
How will we know it worked?
Decide what to measure before launch, or all you have afterwards is a feeling.
What I didWhat I measured →My résumé workflow: before building it, I picked two numbers, time per application and mistakes. One application went from about two hours to a fifteen-minute conversation, and the first run caught one mistake repeated 45 times across 18 old résumés.
How I work
How I make calls
Before the products I’ve made: bringing AI into a team. What I got wrong twice, the use case I missed, and what I measure first now.

25 years in design, 13 in product
I started in advertising, then graphic design and photography, and moved into product design. So I care whether a screen reads well as much as whether it works.
At D-Link I worked on smart home and IoT products, built a design system shared by four shipped products, and started using AI to go from Figma straight to production. Before that: Armorize Technologies, and agency work back to OgilvyOne in 2001.
